Homeschooling is for the crunchy granola types who run their homes on solar power or windmills, so they surely don't have enough spare power to run anything as unnatural as a computer..... right?
So why would I be talking about homeschooling and technology? I might as well talk about tires and knitting; photography and donuts; bowling and marine biology.... right?
Wrong and wrong. Homeschooling and technology go hand in hand in today's technologically advancing world. Even the crunchy granola types see the benefit of using technology in the development of their homeschool curriculum. The internet has multiplied the homeschool parent's ability to provide great materials for their homeschooled children.
One parent has built a wonderfully entertaining blog around just this topic. Topsy Techie is "Raising homegrown geeks…one laptop at a time" . She has found wonderful ways to integrate technology into her children's homeschool education; keeping it interesting and fresh, which can certainly be a challenge. I think Topsy Techie is a better representative of a "typical homeschooler" in 2008 than the old stereotype of the crunchy granola type.
Disclaimer: I love granola and I love crunchy granola types so please don't take offense to my use of the term.
